MERV is a filtration-efficiency scale. The best rating is not automatically the highest number.
What MERV means
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. A higher number generally indicates better capture of smaller particles under standardized testing.
Why airflow matters
Denser media can create more resistance. A filter that exceeds system capability may reduce airflow, increase operating strain, or perform poorly when it becomes dirty.
